Course Details

Subject {L-T-P / C} : ME1000 : Workshop Practice { 0-0-3 / 2}

Syllabus

Module 1 (Machine Shop 10 Hours):
Fabrication of a job involving the following operations:
straight turning, grooving, facing, taper turning, and threading

Module 2 (Welding and Foundry Shop 6 Hours):
(a) Introduction about different types of joining and welding process study of gas welding and arc welding setup
(b) Practice: Melting a welding track by gas welding on 3 mm thick MS plate
(c) Bead formation using filler road on the opposite side of the plate
(d) Practice: Butt joint of 3 mm thick plate using gas welding
(e) Corner joint using gas welding
(f) Lap joint for T-joint by Arc welding

Module 3 (Carpentry and Fitting Shop 10 Hours):
(a) Cutting and grinding practice using different power tools
(b) Preparation of mortise and tenon joints as per the dimensions given
(c) Preparation of a wooden lap joint as per the dimensions given
(d) Making a “T” fitting from MS specimen.

Module 4 (Electrical Shop 4 Hours):
(a) soldering and De-soldering practice
(b) To make half-wave and full-wave rectifier circuits and analyses the waveforms with an oscilloscope
(c) To make the electrical wiring for controlling bulbs and fluorescent lamps from a switchboard
(d) To make electrical wiring for controlling different loads from a switchboard

Course Objectives

  • To grasp hands-on knowledge, experiences, and to learn safety regulations to be
    maintained in different manufacturing and production processes like
    (1) Machining,
    (2) Carpentry and fitting,
    (3) Welding and foundry,
    (4) Electrical work

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this laboratory course,
CO1: Students will be able perform the basic machining process like straight turning, grooving, facing, taper turning, and threading on lathe
CO2: They will be able to weld a Lap joint by Arc welding and butt joint gas welding
CO3: They will be able make a mortise and tenon joints and identify various power tools.
CO4: They will be able to make the electrical wiring for controlling bulbs and fluorescent lamps from a switchboard
CO5: They will able to soldering and De-soldering a small components and design a rectification circuit and analyses the waveforms with an oscilloscope.
