Course Objectives
- Provide hands-on experience in designing structural steel components and connections using design specifications and codes.
- Enhance students’ ability to apply limit state design principles to real-world structural steel projects.
- Develop problem-solving skills through practical design assignments in a studio environment.
- Prepare students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications in steel structure design.
Course Outcomes
(1) Apply limit state design principles to analyze and design various steel structural components.
(2) Design and detail bolted, welded, shear, and moment connections, ensuring structural integrity.
(3) Develop practical competency in using IS 800:2007 and other relevant design codes for steel structures.
(4) Evaluate stability and failure modes of steel members, including beams, columns, and plate girders.
(5) Produce professional-quality design documentation that includes calculations, sketches, and design reports for real-world applications.
