Syllabus

Module-I: Histrory and General Features of Indian Railways (2 hours)
Introduction to Railway Engineering, Railway Transport, History of Rail Transport, Organization and Classification of Indian Railways.
Module-II Railway Track (8 hours)
Track gauge, Railway track components, sleepers, ballast, rails, Subgrade, Track and track stresses Train resistances and hauling power of locomotives,: Important features, and Railway curves.
Module-III: Geometric Design, operation and maintenance of Rail track (10 hours)
Principles of Track allignment, Horizontal and vertical alignments, Points and crossings, Turnouts, switches, track layouts, fitting and fastening, signaling and interlocking, track maintenance.
Module-IV: Introduction to Airport and aircraft (6 hours)
Development of air transport in India, Classification of airports- ICAO standards Planning for airport, Airport components, Aircraft components,
Module-V: Design and operation of Airport (10 hours)
Zoning laws Runways, orientation and geometric design, Runway patterns, Taxiways, alignment, geometry and turning radius, exit taxiways, airport Aprons, Airport hangars, Airport terminal and amenities, design principles of airport pavements, Airport landscaping, grading, and drainage, Airport lighting and marking.

Course Objectives

  • To develop the ability to implement safety protocols that ensure the safe operation of railway systems.
  • To gain knowledge in designing and aligning railway tracks for optimal operational performance.
  • To apply principles of efficiency and safety in the layout of runways, terminals, and other airport components.
  • To acquire the skills necessary for designing airport infrastructure, focusing on functionality and safety.
