• Module 3: Instrument Transformers (8 hours)
o Current transformers, ratio and phase angle errors
o Potential transformers, ratio and phase angle errors

• Module 4: Power & Energy (8 hours)
o Wattmeter.
o Energy meter
o Potentiometer

• Module 5: Electronic Measurements (8 hours)
o Electronic voltmeter, multimeter, wattmeter & energy meter.
o Time, Frequency and phase angle measurements using CRO Spectrum & Wave analyzer
o Digital counter, frequency meter, voltmeter, multimeter, and storage oscilloscope

• Module 6: Instrumentation (6 hours)
o Transducers, classification & selection of transducers, strain gauges, inductive & capacitive transducers, piezoelectric and Hall-effect transducers, thermistor, thermocouple, photo-diodes & photo-transistors, encoder type digital transducers, Signal conditioning and telemetry, basic concepts of smart sensors and applications.
o Data Acquisition Systems.

Comprehend the standards of measurements, errors and methods to reduce them.

Understand the constructional details and principle of operation of basic analog and digital measuring instruments.

To understand the working and applications of various transducers and data acquisition devices.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to

1. Investigate the necessary precautions to reduce the errors in measurements of engineering parameters and knowledge for the constructions of Ammeter, Voltmeter etc.

2. Measure unknown electrical elements like as resistance, inductance, capacitance etc.

3. Calculate ratio and phase errors in instrumentation transformers and apply necessary correction.

4. Measure power and energy for balanced and unbalanced condition in electrical circuit.

5. Determine the operating principal and applications of various electronics instruments used in engineering.

6. Comprehend signal conditioning and data acquisition systems and apply this knowledge to virtual instrumentation.
