1. Introduction (what is biometrics, types of biometrics, authentication modes, model of a biometric system and its modules, applications, challenges)
2. Performance Measurement and Evaluation Parameters (Choosing a threshold, False acceptance, false rejection, equal error rate, accuracy, CMC curve, ROC curve, Area under ROC curve, d' index)
3. About biometric databases (why needed, what types of scenarios provided, constrained and unconstrained databases)
3. Iris biometric system (demonstration of acquisition model, segmentation, Haar feature extraction, Nearest Neighbour Matching, Results)
4. Feature Extraction methodologies (Local and Global feature, Transformation, Wavelets, Energy features, Feature selection and dimension reduction)
5. Fingerprint biometric system (Overview, alignment and segmentation, core, delta, minutiae detection, matching and performance discussions)
6. Palmprint biometric system (segmentation of rectangular RoI, feature extraction and matching)
7. Overview of 2D and 3D face biometric systems
8. Ear and lip biometric system
9. Multibiometrics
10. Biometric standards
11. Privacy issues, legal aspects
Course Objectives
- To make students aware of basic structure of biometric systems
- To make students aware of privacy and legal aspects of biometric data
- To make students conversant with evaluation procedure of a given biometric systems
