Subject {L-T-P / C} : CR4201 : Nanoceramics { 3-0-0 / 3}

Subject Nature : Theory

Syllabus

Module 1: Introduction, History, nanoscience in nature, Surface energy, Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces. [5 hours]
Module 2: Chemical Potential as a Function of Surface Curvature, Stabilization, DLVO theory. [5 hours]
Module 3: Nucleation and growth, Colloidal and surface chemistry. [6 hours]
Module 4: Different synthesis methods, Novel route for synthesis of porous nanomaterials. [6 hours]
Module 5: Characterization techniques: XRD, TEM/FESEM, Particle size, BET, Properties of nanomaterials: Mechanical, Electrical, Magnetic and optical [10 hours]

Course Objectives

  • To aware the importance of nano over micro ceramics/materials
  • To study different synthesis methods for preparing nanomaterials and its characterization
  • To understand the effect of nano on different properties and its applications.
  • The course modules are structured in such a way that it would immensely help students aspiring for higher studies

Course Outcomes

CO1: To gain knowledge on the basic of nanomaterials. <br />CO2: Apply the theoretical knowledge imparted during the course to carry out synthesis and characterization of materials for independent research and developmental work. <br />CO3: To apply the knowledge of nanoscience in industry and research. <br />CO4: To use modern techniques, latest engineering tools and apply skills in industrial as well as research problems.
