Syllabus

The main experiments involved include the following.
1. Estimation of dissolved oxygen content in water by Winkler's method
2. Soap preparation using vegetable oil of fat
3. Estimation of dissolved chlorine in a given water sample by Mohr's method
4. Determination of saponification value of given oil sample
5. Calculation of acid value of oil sample or fat
6. Determination of fat content in food stuff as percentage by weight
7. Estimation of total organic content in soil sample

Course Objectives

  • The laboratory aims at imparting a comprehensive picture about various laboratory procedures for chemical compounds and inherent substances properties estimation.
  • Water sample parameters like chlorine content, dissolved oxygen are to be estimated.
  • Oil sample analysis based on the saponification value, acid value are to be estimated. Synthetic preparation of a soap sample from a oil sample will be practised.

Course Outcomes

1. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data <br />2. The fundamental understanding of chemistry of different chemical and allied processes are part of this laboratory outcome as well. <br />3. Estimation of important parameters in water sample analysis can enable students use them in their final year projects.
