Syllabus

Introduction and principles of nanotechnology in energy and environmental applications. Classifications of several nanomaterials. Synthesis approaches of important nanomaterials useful for energy and environmental applications.
Properties of different classes of nanomaterials (metal oxide, carbonaceous nanomaterials, heterostructure, etc) for environmental remediation and energy applications. Introduction to semiconductor materials as catalyst for environmental and energy applications. Applications of several nanomaterials in photocatalysis for environmental remediation. Bandgap engineering and heterojunction semiconductor materials for environmental and energy applications. Doped materials and its application in environment energy harvesting. Different nanostructures for some specific applications in energy sectors such as solar cells, fuel cells, lithium ion batteries, supercapacitors, and hydrogen storage systems.

Course Objectives

  • The objectives of this course are to give an idea about the nanomaterials used for energy and environmental applications. Principles of designing of nanomaterials used for these applications.

Course Outcomes

(1) Knowledge gain on fundamentals of nanotechnology. <br />(2) Knowledge gain on the use of nanomaterials in environmental remediation. <br />(3) Knowledge gain on the use of nanomaterials in photovoltaics, hydrogen exploitation, fuel cells, batteries for higher efficiency. <br />(3) Knowledge gain on the use of nanotechnology in green and sustainable process development.
