To provide introduction to operating principles, characteristics and performance of various power electronics converters for different operating conditions.

To familiarize students with power electronics converter based open- and closed-loop motor drives to control the speed of electrical machines.

To expose students to open- and closed-loop control of power electronics converters, measurements, and circuit connections.

At the end of the course, students will be able to
1. Recognize the practical application of the power electronics theory course EE2202 - Power Electronics.
2. Understand the characteristics differences between various power electronics devices and their limitations in practical applications.
3. Applying different experimental techniques using suitable apparatus to assess the performance characteristics of various power electronics converters at various operating conditions.
4. Understand the speed control techniques of three-phase induction motor and dc motor using power electronics converters and analyze their speed control characteristics.
5. Practice various electrical circuit connections acknowledging practical, and safety aspects.
6. Evaluate and investigate the possible causes of discrepancies in experimental results and observations, in comparison with the theory.
7. Prepare laboratory reports of professional quality presenting graphical representations of laboratory data necessary waveform and the calculations.
