Syllabus
Water - chemical properties, function as medium of cellular reactions and activities Carbohydrates- structure, functions and biologically important carbohydrates Amino acid, peptide and proteins - classification, structure and properties of amino acids, Protein- structures and function Lipids- structure and biological functions Nucleic acids- DNA- double helix structure and function, RNA- structure and functions Enzymes- classification of enzymes and mechanism of enzyme action Vitamins-Structure and functions.
Course Objectives
- ? Students will gain the understanding of the various biomolecules and their structural units. <br />? Students will understand the structural and functional role of water as solvent in the cellular processes. <br />? Students will understand the structural and functional roles of biomoleculaes. <br />? Student will be able to understand the role of various enzymens and viatamins in different chemical reactions.
Course Outcomes
? Explain properties of water and how they influence biomolecular and cellular function. <br />? Develop the knowledge of the structural organisation and functional molecules of the cells namely carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. <br />? Describe the structure, chemistry and functional roles of biomolecules, including nucleic acids, lipids, carbohydrates and proteins. <br />? Understand the different classes of enzymes and vitamins present in the living system and how they participate, perform and regulate different chemical reactions.
