Syllabus

Module 1 :

Total contact hours = 30-37

Module 1: Material handling methods in mining industries. Aerial Ropeway: Monocable, bi-cable, twin-cable ropeway, constructional features and power calculations, selection and application.
[5-7 classes]

Module 2: Mine hoist: Drum and koepe winders, constructional features, kinematics, torque and power calculation, speed control, safety contrivances, selection of mine winders, cages, skip, suspension gears, headgear structures, cage guides, pit top and pit bottom circuits and layouts. [10-11 classes]

Module 3: Conveyors: Belt conveyor, High angle conveyors, chain conveyor, cable belt conveyor, shaker conveyor, vibratory conveyor, constructional features and power calculations, selection and application. [4-5 classes]

Module 4: Pipeline transport, Scraper Haulage: Constructional features, applicability, advantages and disadvantages. [3-4 classes]

Module 5: Men and material transportation: Cutting and loading machines for coal/ore, special men and materials transport in mines, men riding systems in mines. [8-10 classes]

Course Objective

1 .

To familiarize students with men and material handling methods and its applications in mining industries.

2 .

To equip students with advanced knowledge of aerial ropeway, shaft hoisting, conveyors, pipeline transport, cutting and loading machines, men & material transport systems in mines.

3 .

To develop skills in designing, analyzing and optimizing the use of material transport systems.

Course Outcome

1 .

1. To understand the concept and applications of men & material handling systems in mining industries.
2. To estimate the performance of the aerial ropeway, shaft hoisting system and conveyors in mines.
3. To design aerial ropeway, shaft hoisting system, pit-top & pit-bottom layout, conveyors, special men & material transport system for mines.
4. To know the advanced system for men & material transport for short and long-haul distance in mining industries.
5. To identify the importance of cutting and loading machines used in underground mines with material transportation in mines.
