Syllabus

Module - I
Introduction to refrigeration systems and their applications. Natural refrigeration systems: Nocturnal/radiative cooling system, Indirect evaporative cooling system, Direct evaporative cooling system, Ventilation cooling system, Hydro-geothermal cooling system, Geothermal cooling system.

Module-II
Industrial/Artificial refrigeration system: Vapour compression refrigeration system, Vapour absorption refrigeration system, Vapour adsorption refrigeration system, Vapour jet refrigeration system.

Module-III
Introduction to the cryogenic system and its applications. Cryogenic systems - Linde-Hampson Refrigerator system, Claude system, Collins system and Pulse tube refrigeration system.

Course Objectives

  • After successful completion of this course, one can get familiarized with refrigeration and cryogenic systems, terms, definitions, and a basic understanding of the design of these system-related components.
  • To know the overview of refrigeration and cryogenic systems.
  • To understand the concepts of various forms of refrigeration and cryogenic systems.
  • To outline the utilization of refrigeration and cryogenic systems for both domestic and industrial applications.

Course Outcomes

1. Familiarizing the basic understanding of refrigeration and cryogenic systems. <br />2. Getting trained on analytical/thermal models and design guidelines related to refrigeration/cryogenic systems. <br />3. To present engineering solutions to the problems encountered in practical applications. <br />4. Overview of consultancy works, start-ups, and research topics related to refrigeration/cryogenic systems. <br />5. Study the environmental and sustainability aspects related to refrigeration/cryogenic systems.
