Course Details

Subject {L-T-P / C} : ME6156 : Vibration Based Condition Monitoring { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module-I (05 hours) : Introduction to Maintenance Strategies, Condition Monitoring Methods, Types and Benefits of Vibration Analysis, Vibration Transducers, Torsional Vibration Transducers and experimental vibration analysis
Module -II (07 hours): Introduction to vibration signals generated by reciprocating and rotating machines, basic signal processing techniques in time and frequency domains (such statistical properties, Fourier Series, FFT, Modulation, demodulation and Sidebands, Hilbert, Cepstrum and envelop analyses )
Module-III (06 hours): Introduction to Instrumentation, Data Acquisition, Filtering and different transducers
Module-IV (06 hours) : Vibration signal analysis based fault detections in Rotating Machines, Bearings and Gears, Fans, Blowers, Pumps, IC Engines
Module-V: (06 hours): Experimental methodology to detect cracks and faults in various vibrating and dynamic structures. Wavelet analysis of sensor signals for condition monitoring.
Module-VI (06 hours): Use of various Al-ML techniques for fault detection of vibrating structures/system/machines and case studies of Industrial problems related to condition monitoring based acquired vibration signals

Course Objective

1 .

To impart basic knowledge and importance on Vibration Based Condition Monitoring in Engineering Fields among the students

2 .

To create the awareness on Vibration Based Condition Monitoring in Research and Application area

3 .

To acquire the basic knowledge for machinery condition monitoring based on vibration signals along with the recent developments in the field of signal processing

4 .

To demonstrate the real-time machinery health monitoring by various condition monitoring aspects

Course Outcome

1 .

CO-1: Student will gain knowledge on the various techniques of the signal processing
CO-2: Knowledge will be gained on the application and utility of Vibration Based Condition Monitoring used in various sectors and fields of Engineering
CO-3: Upon completing the course, students will understand to detect the various faults in machines based on the vibration signal analysis
CO-4: Students will learn to identify and interpret early warning signs of equipment failure and enabling proactive maintenance
CO-5: Student will expertise in maintenance approaches, and learn practical applications of condition monitoring technologies, leading to improved equipment/machines reliability and reduced downtime
