Syllabus

Module 1 :

ME6279 Precision Engineering Laboratory

1. Measurement of angles of a single point cutting using tool maker’s microscope

2. Determination of thread parameters of an external screw thread using large tool maker’s microscope.

3. To measure surface roughness of a machined component using a portable Talysurf.

4. To determine different parameters of a micro screw using optical microscope.

5. To determine different parameters of a micro-gear using optical microscope.

6. To measure parallesim, perpendicularity and angles of different planes using CMM.

7. To measure flatness of a plane of a component using CMM.

8. To measure circularity and cylindricity of holes using CMM.

9. To measure external and internal taper of a component using CMM.

10. Measurement of different parameters of a piston using CMM

11. Measurement of different parameters of a connecting rod using CMM

12. To measure different parameters of a crank shaft using CMM

13. Calibration of thickness of a slip-gauge using an optical flat

14. To determine machine capability and natural tolerances by measuring the nominal dias of the balls using optical microscope

Course Outcome

1 .

1. Knowledge will be gained for the precision measurement of a component
2. Knowledge will be gained regarding the basic procedure of measurement using CMM
3. Knowledge will be gained regarding the basic procedure of measurement using optical microscope
4. Knowledge will be gained regarding the basic procedure of measurement using Talysurf
5. Able to measure circularity, cylindricity and other geometrical features using CMM
