Subject {L-T-P / C} : ME6271 : System Simulation Laboratory { 0-0-3 / 2}

Subject Nature : Practical

Syllabus

Module-I
Systems, modeling, general systems theory, concept of simulation, simulation as a decision making tool, types of simulation, Pseudo random numbers, methods of generating random variates, discrete and continuous distributions, testing of random numbers.

Module-II
Problem formulation, data collection and reduction, time flow mechanism, key variables, logic flow chart, starting condition, run size, experimental design consideration, output analysis and interpretation validation.

Module-III (Optional)
Comparison and selection of simulation languages, study of any one simulation language.

Module-IV (optional)
Development of simulation models using the simulation language studied for systems like, queuing systems, production systems, Inventory systems, maintenance and replacement systems, Investment analysis and network.

Problem Solution
Production Quality Optimization, Inventory Simulation

Course Objectives

  • Understand the basic system concept and definitions of system.
  • Learn modeling techniques to model and to simulate various systems.
  • Analyze a system and make use of the information to improve the performance.

Course Outcomes

1. Apply functional modeling method to model the activities of a static system. <br />2. Understand the behavior of a dynamic system and create an analogous model for a dynamic system. <br />3. Simulate the operation of a dynamic system and make improvement according to the simulation results.
