Syllabus

Module 1 :

1. Liquid-vapor phase change heat transfer: Heat pipe apparatus.
2. Pool and flow boiling measurements, Critical heat flux apparatus.
3. Condensation: Dropwise and Filmwise condensation apparatus.
4. Heat exchanger experiments: Double pipe, Cross-flow, Coiled tube type.
5. Measurement of thermal conductivity: of Solid powder, Composite slab and Lagged pipe apparatus.
6. Measurement of Emissivity of grey surface, Stefan-Boltzmann apparatus.
7. Natural convection inside vertical cylinder.
8. Pin-fin apparatus and Forced convection apparatus.

Course Objective

1 .

1. To introduce basic study of the phenomena of fluid flow and heat transfer

2. To develop methodologies for solving variety of real life engineering problems involving fluid flow and heat transfer

Course Outcome

1 .

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Understand fundamentals of heat transfer such as conduction, convection, radiation, phase change heat transfer
2. Analyze problems involving conduction, convection, and radiation
3. Understand experimental conditions and limitations
4. Develop experimental skill
