Syllabus

Module 1 :

Module I [8 hours]
Review of the basic concepts of Thermodynamics: First law, second law, Entropy, Thermodynamic relations.

Module II [12 hours]
Cryogenic Systems: Carnot Liquefaction Cycle, F.O.M. and Yield of Liquefaction Cycles. Inversion Curve - Joule Thomson Effect. Liquefaction Cycles: Linde Hampson Cycle, Precooled Linde Hampson Cycle, Claudes Cycle, Collins Cycle, Dual Pressure Cycle, Helium Refrigerated Hydrogen Liquefaction Systems.

Module III [8 hours]
Critical components in Liquefaction Systems, Introduction to air separation.

Module IV [4 hours]
Cryogenic Refrigerators: J.T. Cryocoolers, Stirling Cycle Refrigerators, G.M. Cryocoolers, Pulse Tube Refrigerators.

Module V [4 hours]
Regenerators used in Cryogenic Refrigerators. Applications: Applications of Cryogenic in Space Programmes, Superconductivity, Cryo Metallurgy, Medical applications.
