Syllabus

Modeling: Design and Steady State Analysis of Converters (nonisolated and isolated, DCM and CCM), Dynamic analysis of converters for both CCM and DCM, state space average modeling, PWM switch modeling and discrete time modeling, various converter transfer functions Control and Analysis: PWM control technique and analysis, compensation design for voltage mode converter, Multi-loop control system analysis and design, peak-current-mode and average-current mode control, state feedback/pole placement technique, Input/output filter design and analysis and Input filter compensation and control Magnetics: Inductor and transformer design Resonant Converters ZVS and ZCS topologies and analysis.

Course Objectives

  • The objective of this course is to educate students in the detailed design, steady state modeling, dynamic modeling, and control design of dc-dc converters.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to <br />• Design the power stage for various converter topologies based on specifications <br />• Derive the averaged switch model of the various converter for circuit simulation <br />• Derive the various transfer functions for different converter topologies operating in both CCM and DCM <br />• Design the controller for voltage and current mode control
