Syllabus

Converter topologies for AC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, an overview of applications of voltage source converters pulse width modulation techniques for 1-phase and 3-phase bridge converters, sine-triangle PWM, Third harmonic injection PWM, space vector PWM, bus-clamping PWM, space vector based PWM, advanced PWM techniques, PWM at low switching frequency, selective harmonic elimination, off-line optimized PWM, calculation of switching and conduction losses compensation for dead time and DC voltage regulation, estimation of current ripple and torque ripple in inverter-fed drives, linear and overmodulation methods of conventional and multilevel inverters/converters. Analysis of DC link current and DC capacitor current in 3-phase voltage source inverter, Analysis of Torque ripple in induction motor drive, Evaluation of Conduction and Switching losses in 3-phase inverter, and Design of 3-phase inverter for lower switching losses in 3-phase VSI, Effect of dead time for continuous PWM schemes and bus-clamping PWM schemes. Analysis of SPWM and SVPWM, Various PWM for multi-level inverters

Course Objectives

  • The various pulse width modulation techniques studied for 3-phase and 1-phase converter circuits.
  • Analyse and Design a novel PWM techniques for reduction of current ripple motor
  • Study and develop the detail information for linear and over modulation of the converter

Course Outcomes

1. Model and develop the various advanced PWM control techniques including Space Vector Modulation and bus-clamped PWM techniques for 1-phase and 3-phase voltage source inverters in linear and overmodulation range. <br />2. Know a detailed performance analysis of multilevel inverter topologies for high power applications.
