Syllabus

1) Antenna fundamentals and definitions Dipole and loop antennas, arrays: Antenna Array, Linear array, Phased array Array synthesis: Prediction of antenna array from radiation pattern
2) Microstrip antenna, Operating principle of microstrip antenna, Modes, Internal electric and magnetic field patterns for different modes, Predicting its resonant frequency, Far-field radiation patterns
3) Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA), Operating principle of a DRA, Modes, Internal electric and magnetic field patterns for different modes, Predicting its resonant frequency, Far-field radiation patterns of a DRA
4) Active integrated antennas Broadband antennas
5) Fourier transforms and its application to antenna theory Aperture antennas, GTD/UTD techniques and its applications to horn and reflector antennas
6) Antenna measurements: Test ranges, near field and far field techniques, plotting field patterns, measurement of gain, radiation efficiency, bandwidth etc.

Course Objectives

  • The students will be able to design various conventional antennas and planar antennas.
  • Students will be able to design microstrip antennas for different modes.
  • Students will be able to design dielectric resonator antennas for different modes.
  • Students will be able to learn antenna measurement techniques related to the different parameters.

Course Outcomes

- Understanding wire antenna, aperture antennas, microstrip antennas. <br />- Design and analysis of Microstrip Antenna and Dielectric Resonator Antenna along with its various parameters. <br />- Solving problems related to the above cases <br />- Learning antenna measurement techniques related to the different parameters.
