Syllabus

Visual Identification of soil, Determination of Moisture content of the soil, Grain Size Analysis (Mechanical Sieve Analysis, Wet Analysis) Atterberg’s limits (Liquid Limit, Plastic Limit, Shrinkage Limit ), Free Swell Index Test, Determination of Field Density by Core Cutter Method and by Sand Replacement Method, Specific Gravity of Soils (Fine and Coarse-Grained), Determination of OMC & MDD by Using Light Compaction Test, Proctor Plasticity Needle Test, Relative Density of Coarse-Grained Soils, California Bearing Ratio Test (Soaked and Unsoaked samples), Direct Shear Test, Laboratory Vane Shear Test, Unconfined Compression Shear Test, Permeability tests (Constant head and Falling head), pH value of soil, Triaxial Shear Test, Consolidation Test.

Course Objectives

  • Identify and classify different types of soils
  • Evaluation of geoengineering propertie of soil
  • Establish relationship between different soil papameters

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will be able to evaluate different soil parameters required for geotechnical analysis and design
