Module 1 :

MODULE-I: Introduction to Multimedia Data Representation: Introduction to Multimedia, A Taste of Multimedia, Graphics and Image Data Representation, Colour in Image and Video, Fundamental Concepts in Video, Basics of Digital Audio. [8 Hours]
MODULE-II: Multimedia Data Compression: Lossless Compression Algorithms, Lossy Compression Algorithms, Image Compression Standards, Basic Video Compression Techniques [10 Hours]
MODULE-III: MPEG Video Coding Standards: MPEG-1,2,4 [10 Hours]
MODULE-IV: New Video Coding Standards: H.264 and H.265 [5 Hours]
MODULE-V: Basic Audio Compression Technique, MPEG Audio Compression [5 Hours]

Course Objective

To understand what a multimedia system is.

2 .

To analyze and design audio encoders and decoders.

3 .

To analyze and design image encoders and decoders.

4 .

To analyze and design video encoders and decoders.

Course Outcome

1 .

After completion of this course, a student will be able:
1) To understand the fundamental concepts of multimedia signals and systems
2) To analyze basic multimedia signals and systems
3) To comprehend, analyze, design and develop various audio encoders/ decoders and their components (sub-systems)
4) To comprehend, analyze, design and develop various JPEG encoders/ decoders and their components (sub-systems)
5) To comprehend, analyze, design and develop various MPEG encoders/ decoders and their components (sub-systems)
