Module 1 :

Module 1: Introduction to Wireless Communication Systems [5 hrs.]
Evolution, Mobile Systems around the World, Example of the mobile radio systems, Recent trends, 2G, 3G , 4G and 5G Cellular networks.

Module 2: The Cellular Concept [6 hrs.]
Frequency reuse, Channel assignment, Hand off process, Types of Interference, Cellular capacity

Module 3: Mobile Radio Propagation [6 hrs.]
Path loss, Radio wave propagation, Reflection, Diffraction, Scattering, Link budget Design, Outdoor and indoor propagation models

Module 4: Principle of multi path propagation [6 hrs.]
Impulse response model of channels, parameters for mobile multi path channels, concept of fading, Rayleigh and Ricean fading, Simulation of fading channels.

Module 5: Modulations techniques for mobile communication [6 hrs.]
Pulse shaping, Linear and non-linear Modulation techniques, constant envelop modulation, QPSK, MSK, GMSK. Spread spectrum modulation techniques - Direct sequence and Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum and their applications.

Module 6: Equalization, Diversity and Channel coding [6 hrs.]
Fundamentals of equalization, General adaptive equalizer, Linear and non-linear equalizers, diversity techniques, RAKE receivers, Basic concept of coding.

Course Objective

To learn about the evolution of wireless communication system

To develop skill of the link budget design of cellular system.

3 .

To analyze the effects of small scale fading and large scale path loss.

4 .

To understand the modulation and multiple access techniques used for cellular systems.

CO1: Learning the basics of wireless communication and knowledge of evolution of Mobile Radio systems-1G to 5G
CO2: Understanding the concept of cellular mobile communication system.
CO3: Application of large scale path loss and small scale channel fading models in design of mobile communication systems.
CO4: Analysis of different modulation and multiple access schemes for mobile communications.
CO5: Implementation of equalization, diversity and coding techniques.
