Subject {L-T-P / C} : EC6409 : Antennas and Propagation for Wireless Communication Systems { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

Module 1: Review of the fundamental principles of propagation and antennas. Frequency bands for mobile radio systems propagation in free space, over reflecting surface. Effects of atmosphere. ducting and nonstandard refraction.
(16 hours)

Module 2: Propagation over irregular terrain, knife edge diffraction and path loss prediction models Propagation in built up areas and microcellular systems. Propagation inside buildings.
(12 hours)

Module 3: Characterization of multipath phenomenon, short term fading. Statistics of fast fading. Wideband channel characterization basic concepts of antennas. Examples of antennas for wireless systems.
(12 hours)

Course Objectives

  • The characteristics of antenna will be discussed to understand its working principle.
  • The procedure to model the wave propagating path will be discussed
  • The knowledge will be extended to design wireless communication system
  • This theory will be applied to simple RADAR application

Course Outcomes

1) Understand wireless communication requirements and antennas suitable for it <br />2) Learn techniques of designing antenna for wireless communication <br />3) Modelling of antenna and propagation channel. <br />4) Application to RADAR
