High pressure measurement – Bridgman gauge.

Thermal expansion methods – Liquid-in-glass thermometer, Bimetallic thermometer, Pressure thermometer,
Thermoelectric sensors – Thermocouple,
Varying-resistance devices – Resistance thermometers, Thermistors,
Radiation methods – Radiation fundamentals, Radiation thermometers – Unchopped broad-band radiation thermometer, Chopped broad-band radiation thermometer, Narrow-band radiation thermometer, Optical pyrometer, Two-color radiation thermometer, Blackbody-tipped fiber optic radiation thermometer.

Variable-area flow meter, Turbine flow meter, Vortex shedding flow meter, Positive displacement flow meter,
Noninvasive methods – Electromagnetic flow meter, Ultrasonic flow meter, Laser-Doppler flow meter.

Different level instruments: Dip Sticks, Float systems, Pressure measuring devices, Ultrasonic level gauge, Capacitive devices, Radiation methods, Thermal effect types, Electrical methods.

Module 6: Fiber optic sensors:
Introduction to fiber optic sensors, principle of optical fiber, Fiber optic sensors: Extrinsic sensor, Intrinsic sensor, Intensity modulated sensor, Phase modulated sensor, Frequency modulated sensor, Wavelength modulated sensor, Polarization modulated sensor, Scattering loss modulated sensor.

Module 7: Miscellaneous measurements:
Humidity, Chemical composition, PH measurement, some recent advancement.

To make students familiar with the measurement of pressure, temperature, flow, level, humidity, and chemical compositions.

To provide knowledge of different fiber optic sensors.

To make students able to select suitable sensor system and analyze the system for a given industrial application.

After successful completion of the course a graduate should be able to
