Syllabus

Introduction Process control, definition of elements in a control loop, process considerations, instrument parameters Basic electrical components: resistance, capacitance, inductance Electronics: analog circuits, digital circuits, circuit considerations Pressure: pressure measurements and instruments, pressure formula, application considerations eg. Selection, installation, calibration Level sensing devices Flow measurement instruments Temperature and heat measuring devices humidity, density, viscosity and pH measuring devices other sensors: sound and light measuring devices Actuators and control Signal conditioning Signal transmission Process control: control modes, implementation and control loops, digital controllers Measurement and control of bioprocess parameters: Feedback control, biocontroller characteristics, Controller tuning: ultimate gain method, Process reaction curve, System response.

Course Objectives

  • To enable students understand the bioprocess control strategies

Course Outcomes

1. Students will learn how large scale bioreactors are controlled at industry. <br />2. Students will have idea about the bioprocess control steps to be followed for a product.
