Carcinogenesis, cancer initiation, promotion, & progression, Cellular proto-oncogenes, oncogene activation, Growth factors, growth factor receptors, signal transduction, Transcription factors, Retroviral oncogenes, Tumor suppressor genes, Cancer cell cycles, DNA viruses/cell immortalization, Tumor suppressor gene pathways, DNA methylation, epigenetic silencing of suppressor genes, Genomic instability, Apoptosis, Free radicals, antioxidants, and cancer, Metabolic oxidative stress and cancer, Epidemiology of selected cancers, Gene rearrangements, detecting oncogene abnormalities in clinical specimens, Cell:cell interactions, cell adhesion, angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis. Strategies of anticancer chemotherapy, Strategies of anticancer gene therapy, Translating therapies from laboratory to clinic, Gene discovery in canner research, cancer genome anatomy project, Cancer immunity and strategies of anticancer, immunotherapy.

Course Objectives

  • Understanding the principal phenotypic characteristics of cancer cells.
  • Understanding the principal genotypic and epigenetic characteristics of cancer cells.
  • Explain the “classical” causes of cancer in molecular terms
  • Understanding the current approaches to prevention and treatment of cancer.

Course Outcomes

Student will be able to understand cancer disease, causes, cancer biology, mechanism and various existing therapeutic strategy.
