Phytopharmaceuticals of importance BT approaches for plant-derived secondary metabolites Plant cell culture for secondary metabolite production Food additives from plant source strategies for enhancement of secondary metabolite production screening of high-yielding cell lines effect of nutrients on production of secondary metabolites effect of cultivation conditions, Elicitation of secondary metabolites Permeabilization In-situ product extraction Cyclodextrins Organ culture for secondary metabolites hairy root cultures Biotransformation using plant cell and organ cultures transgenic protein production immobilization of plant cells for secondary metabolite production Scale-up of plant cell cultivation Metabolic engineering for enhanced secondary metabolite production

Course Objectives

  • Introduction to plant secondary metabolites
  • Plant bioprocess optimization strategies for large-scale production of useful secondary metabolites
  • Study of advances in biotransformation, metabolic engineering and plant transgenics for the production of secondary metabolites

Course Outcomes

The students will be exposed to various aspects of plant secondary metabolites they will be well-versed with large scale in vitro production techniques they will study advanced aspects of plant secondary metabolism such as biotransformation, metabolic engineering and transgenics.
