Subject {L-T-P / C} : BM3602 : Biomedical Instrumentation - II { 3-0-0 / 3}

Syllabus

ECG morphology - Normal and Abnormal Waves, Heart rate variability, heart rate monitor, Holter Monitor, Phonocardiography, Cardiac Pacemaker-Internal, and External Pacemaker, Types of pacemakers, Pacemaker codes. Blood Pressure: indirect methods - Auscultatory and Oscillometric method, direct methods. Patient monitoring systems. Spirometer-Lung Volume and vital capacity, measurements of residual volume. Basics principles of ultrasound and echo techniques, display techniques of Ultrasound- A, B and M mode, Application of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool – Echocardiogram, Echoencephalogram. Blood flow meter- Electromagnetic and Ultrasonic types, Cardiac Output measurement methods. Physiological effects of electricity, Macro shock, and Micro shock hazards – Patient’s electrical environment –Electrical safety codes and standards.

Course Objectives

  • To Understand the medical devices applied in physiological measurements
  • To Know the ultrasound imaging technique and its use in diagnosis
  • To understand the principles of pressure and flow measurements
  • To understand the patient safety in hospital environment

Course Outcomes

After completing the course, the students will able to: <br />1. Explain about measurements of electrical and non electrical parameters of physiological measurements <br />2. Describe the different morphology and arrhythmia condition of ECG signal <br />3. discuss the applications of Ultrasound and electromagnetic field in biomedical field <br />4. understand the cardiovascular mechanism and measurement methods <br />5. Outline the importance of patient safety against electrical hazard
