Introduction: Fermentation processes general requirements of fermentation processes – An overview of aerobic and anaerobic fermentation processes and their application in industry -
Medium requirements for fermentation processes - examples of simple and complex media Design and usage of commercial media for industrial fermentation. Sterilization: Thermal death kinetics of micro-organisms - Batch and Continuous Heat-Sterilization of liquid Media, Filter Sterilization of Liquid Media and Air.Stoichiometry and Kinetics of substrate utilization and Biomass and product formation in cell cultures Plasmid stability in recombinant cell culturesBioreactor and product recovery operations: Operating considerations for bioreactors for suspension and immobilized cultures: batch, fed batch and continuous operation Selection, scale-up, operation of bioreactors Enzyme technology, Enzymes: Classification and properties Applied enzyme catalysis - Kinetics of enzyme catalytic reactions

Course Objectives

  • To enable the students to understand large scale bioprocess strategies.
  • To give an overview of plant, microbial and animal cell bioprocessing

Course Outcomes

1. Students will have complete idea for developing bioprocess for particular microbial product. <br />2. This will help to have the concept to enhance the productivity of microbial products <br />3. Scale up of products from laboratory to large scale.
