Syllabus

Basic biomedical signals, Basic signals and its classification, Introduction to digital signal processing, Introduction to discrete-time signals and systems, Sampling Theorem, Fourier Transform, Discrete Fourier Transform, Fast Fourier transform algorithms, Laplace Transform, Z-Transform, Filter designing by placement of poles and zeros, Design and analysis of infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters, Design and analysis of finite impulse response (FIR) filter design, Realization of digital systems, Medical applications of digital signal processing.

Course Objectives

  • To understand basic/biomedical signals and to implement different mathematical operations on signals
  • To be able to apply knowledge of the signal processing techniques on signals
  • To provide knowledge on signal transformations
  • To make familiar with the practical implementation of the digital filters

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will be able to: <br />1. Apply the knowledge of mathematical operations to biomedical signals. <br />2. Understand the process of sampling and the effects of under sampling. <br />3. Apply the Fourier transform, Laplace transform and Z- transform to analyze of continuous-time and discrete-time signals. <br />4. Design and implement digital (FIR, IIR) filters. <br />5. Apply digital signal processing techniques on biomedical signals.
