Introduction to plant biotechnology biogenesis of plant secondary metabolites plant biotransformation media composition and statistical optimisation tools - Plackett-Burman studies, CCD-RSM Elicitation of secondary metabolites permeabilisation of secondary metabolites plant transgenics large scale production of secondary metabolites in a bioreactor in-situ extraction techniquesEffect of environmental stress and pollutants on food crops and cattle Plant protease inhibitors for development of pest resistant crops Phytoremediation and biocontrol of nematodes parasites of cattle formulation of pesticides from plant sources, Effect of sewage and sludge on vegetables growing in contaminated soils, blood-sugar lowering herbs for diabetes control responses to pesticides for effective pest resistance, critical concentrations of heavy metals and phytoremediation of heavy metals

Course Objectives

  • Introduction to plant tissue culture techniques
  • Study of large-scale production of plant based products
  • Study of various applications of plant biotechnology in health, agriculture and environment management sectors

Course Outcomes

The students will be exposed to basic tissue culture techniques they will study the bioprocess strategies for large-scale production of secondary metabolites in a bioreactor they will study the various applications of plant biotechnology in health, agriculture and environmental sectors.
