Course Details

Subject {L-T-P / C} : BM3708 : Analytical Techniques in Biotechnology Laboratory { 0-0-2 / 1}

Subject Nature : Practical

Syllabus

At least 10 experiments from the following list of experiments will be carried out:
1. Calibration of UV-visible spectrometer and analysis of analytes
2. Analysis of the thermal properties of the bioanalytes/ biomaterials by differential scanning calorimetry
3. Analysis of the functional groups of the bioanalytes/ biomaterials by FTIR spectroscopy
4. Quantitative analysis of the moisture content of the biomaterials by Halogen moisture content analyzer
5. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of bioanalytes using HPLC
6. Analysis of the tensile properties of the biomaterials using a static mechanical tester
7. Analysis of the compressive properties of the biomaterials using a static mechanical tester
8. Analysis of the viscoelastic properties of the biomaterials using a static mechanical tester
9. Analysis of the tensile and compressive properties of the biomaterials using a static mechanical tester
10. Analysis of the electrical properties of the biomaterials using an impedance analyzer
11. Analyzing the emulsion microstructure by bright field microscopy
12. Analyzing the surface topology of the biomaterials by stereo-microscope
13. Analysis of the color of the biomaterials by reflective colorimeter
14. Analysis of the refractive index of liquid and semi-solid formulations
15. Analysis of the size distribution of nanoformulations by DLS-zeta sizer

Course Objectives

  • The main objective of the course is to provide training to the student on the analytical instruments
  • The secondary objective of the course is to provide training to the student to obtain analytical information of the highest quality from the analytical instruments
  • The student will also gain training on solving complex analytical problems derived from analytical information

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students will be able to: <br />1. understand the basic working principles of analytical instruments <br />2. handle basic analytical instruments <br />3. do sample preparation for analytical instruments <br />4. perform analysis of different analytes <br />5. analyze the data obtained from the analytical instruments
