Syllabus
1.Determination of Michelis-Menten kinetic parameters based on initial rate reactions. 2. Study on the Effect of inhibitors on enzyme kinetics.3. Immobilization of enzymes by covalent attachment.4. Immobilization of enzymes by cross-linking using multifunctional reagent. 5. Determination of reaction rate using Immobilization of enzymes.6. Study of growth cycle of bacteria in a batch cultivation system.7. Study of growth cycle of yeast in a batch cultivation system.8. Determination of specific growth rate of bacteria in batch reactor.9. Find out the rate equation for cell growth in a CSTR.10. Determination of oxygen absorption in a fermentor by sodium sulfite oxidation method. 11. Determination of Volumetric mass transfer co-efficient (KLa) in ethanol fermentation process.
Course Objectives
- To provide the hand-on experience in carrying out biochemical reactions using enzyme as biocatalyst with practical approaches <br />To enable the students to analyse the enzyme activity by calculating rate of reaction, <br />To provide the hand-on experience to study the cell kinetics and determine the biokinetic parameters <br /> To enable student to conduct experiment and analyse the performance of bioreactor

Course Outcomes
The students will be able.. <br />(i) to understand and explain the effect of key parameters on the enzyme catalysed reaction <br />(ii) to understand and explain the effect of key parameters on the immobilized enzyme catalysed reaction <br />(iii) to calculate the rate of enzymatic reaction and determine the biokinetic parameters <br />(iv) to calculate and analyze the kinetic parameters for microbial growth <br />(v) to study and assess the performance of bioreactors or fermentors
