Syllabus

The Human Body: An Orientation, Biochemistry / Enzymes, Cell Transport, Cell Communication, Endocrine System, Cell Division, Cancer – Tissues, The Skeletal System, The Muscular System, The Nervous System, Special Senses, Blood & Immune System, The Cardiovascular System, The Respiratory System, The Digestive System, The Urinary System, The lymphatic system, The integumentary system. Nerve conduction velocity assessment, Osmolality and specific gravity measurements, Neuromuscular Physiology: Electromyography for muscle strength and fatigue, Cardiovascular Physiology: ECG interpretation, Heart auscultation, Pulse and blood pressure determination, Gastrointestinal Physiology: Flexible sigmoidoscopy, Respiratory Physiology: Oxygen saturation, Blood gases assessment, Peak flow assessment, Spirometry, Respiratory rate and lung sound assessment, Integrative Physiology: Dietary plans, Endocrinology: Blood glucose determination, First Aid:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (chest compression, external defibrillation), Rehydration choices, Endotracheal intubation

Course Objectives

  • To learn the structural and functional components of human body
  • To correlate the structural and functions of the organs and organ systems with various diseases
  • 3.To understand engineering principles involved in anatomy and physiology of human body.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to <br />1. Explain the anatomy of the organ and organ systems of the human body. <br />2. Narrate the physiology of each organ to the maintenance of homeostasis. <br />3. Elucidate the physiological and pathological aspects of growth and development. <br />4. Explain the engineering principles involved in the anatomy and physiology of human body. <br />5. Understand the coordination between different organs and organ systems.
