Biomolecules: structure and function, Introduction to unicellular and multicellular systems. From cells to tissue: different forces playing across the length scale. Allometric relationships, Understanding biology in terms of number, Brief outline of important cellular processes, Central dogma of molecular biology, Brief overview of transcription and translation, Cell-cell and cell-material interaction, Cell adhesion, migration, proliferation, differentiation and cell death, Endocytosis, Mechano-transduction, Electrophysiology of cells, action potential, bio-impedance, pathogenesis, Stem cell, Cell culture and characterization of cells, Concepts of Immuno-compatibility, Interface of cell biology with pharmaceutical technology, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Cells as therapeutics, bioreactor, biosensor, biobattery and bioengineering building block. Ethical aspects of applied cell biology

Course Objectives

  • To provide overview of different aspects of living system.
  • To establish co-relation among physical processes and biological systems in terms of engineering principles.
  • To highlight the prospective application of basic concept of biology in other fields and vice versa.

Course Outcomes
