Syllabus

Stem cell history and politics, Embryonic stem cells, Adult stem cells, current stem cell sources & isolation techniques, Stem cell isolation, expansion & differentiation, Characterisation techniques, translational technologies, tissue engineering, bioreactors, Application of high throughput systems, clinical application, strategies and reviews of current stem cell research, case studies, Ethical issues.

Course Objectives

  • This course shall provide the students a comprehensive knowledge about the basics of stem cells and their respective function in the body for usage in engineering context.

Course Outcomes

The student be have the knowledge of basic engineering principle and understand the key challenges in the field. Provides the assessment ability in the students to demonstrate a scientific approach towards the issues related to stem cell engineering, scale-up, ethical and regulatory issues for the clinical applications of stem cells.
