Introduction to artificial organs, Biomaterials used in artificial organs and prostheses, Artificial kidney: kidney filtration, artificial waste removal methods, hemodialysis, regeneration of dialysate, membrane configuration, wearable artificial kidney machine, Artificial heart-lung machine: lungs gaseous exchange/ transport, Artificial heart valves, Liver support system, Artificial pancreas, Artificial limbs, Audiometry: air conduction, bone conduction, masking Ophthalmoscope, Artificial cornea, Prosthetic and Orthotic devices, Rehabilitation Engineering: Impairments, disabilities and handicaps, Engineering concepts in sensory and motor rehabilitation, Rehabilitation of vision, hearing and speech, Spinal rehabilitation.

Course Objectives

  • Introduction to the currently available artificial organs and prosthetic devices
  • To develop an understanding of the various rehabilitation aid principle and its working

Course Outcomes
