Module I
Introduction to architectural review and writing
Module II
Review of architectural works from Post industrial revolution: using examples from Neo-classical and Gothic Revival versus early iron and concrete construction
Module III
Review of architectural works from High Modern and Late Modern styles.
Module IV
Review of architectural works from Post-modern, Hi-tech and Neo-modern styles.
Module V
Understanding the recent trends in architecture across the globe: an overview of recent trends and practices followed by architects across the globe (focusing mainly on 21st century architecture).
Review of contemporary trends in architecture (Sustainable architecture, Biomimcry / Biophilia in architecture, Impact of digital design and computer aided visualization in architecture (example: parametric design, etc.).
Module VI
Review of recent architectural trends in South east Asian countries: review of works of selected architects (focusing mainly on 21st century architecture).

Course Objectives

  • To develop verbal and written communicative skills for appraisal of architectural works, both national and international, with special focus on recent architectural trends across the globe

Course Outcomes

• Developing abilities to understand and communicate architectural concepts and design ideas concisely, and effectively, in both verbal and textual formats. <br />• Understanding some of the contemporary trends in architecture based on the changing social, cultural, economic, political, environment conditions and advancement in technology. <br />• Developing the ability to appraise architectural works based on the social, cultural, political and economic context in which they were built. <br />Besides the review of architectural works from previously taught themes in the subjects focusing on evolution of architecture, this subject shall also focus on recent trends in architectural works across the globe. <br />• A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, life-long learning <br />• An ability to apply knowledge of architecture <br />• An ability to communicate effectively <br />• An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams <br />• An understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
