Syllabus
Module I: Definition of house and housing, dwelling unit, habitable room, household definition
of built-up area, super built-up area, carpet area, FSI
Module II: Densities and Housing typologies, concept of formal and informal housing types of formal and informal housing
Exercise: study of existing housing typologies and seminar presentations
Module III: site analysis, site planning principles determinants of housing design (house design considering climatic aspects, cultural aspects, and natural disaster)
Module IV: Housing need, housing stock, and housing shortage, Housing affordability, Housing finance
Module V: Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, housing policies (PMAY, rental housing policies etc.)
Module VI: Concept of core housing, low-cost housing, self-help housing, flex housing, and inclusive housing etc.
Exercise: seminar presentations on emerging planning and design concepts related to housing
Course Objectives
- To understand the need for shelter, various issues related to the development of <br />housing system, and policies <br />To understand the housing practices, and to analyse designed environment
Course Outcomes
An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs such as aesthetic, economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
