Syllabus
Module1: Introduction: Various types of Mine hazards encountered during mining including Blasting, use of mining machinery, Roof fall, and Side fall. [4 hours]
Module2: Coal Mine fire - Classification of mine fire, the genesis of mine fire, Spontaneous heating of coal, incubation period, detection of fire, prevention, and control of mine fire in underground coal mines [7 hours]
Module3: Mine Explosion – Methane explosion, Coal dust explosion, genesis, detection, prevention, and control in underground coal mines [7 hours]
Module4: Water danger in mines, Surface and underground precautions to prevent flooding of the mines, Inundation of mines, and dewatering [4 hours]
Module5: Rock Bursts, Coal Mine Bumps, detection, prevention, and control technology used in mines [5 hours]
Module6: Rescue and Recovery operations in mines, Rescue station, Rescue equipment, classification, recovery operations after mine fire, explosion, and inundation. [7 hours]
Course Objectives
- To understand hazards associated with underground coal mining
- To understand the mechanism of various types of hazards associated with underground coal mining
- To understand the mitigation measures to be taken to face the various types of hazards in mines
- To understand the monitoring and control of various types of hazards associated with underground coal mining
Course Outcomes
CO1: The students will know about the types of hazards present in underground coal mines like fire, explosion, roof fall, side fall, rock bursts, coal bumps, and inundation <br />CO2: To students will learn how to monitor, investigate, and control the hazards <br />CO3: The students will gain knowledge on the rescue and recovery operations to be conducted in emergency situations in underground coal mines.
