Chapter-1:
Introduction to tribological failure in machine components, Causes, Development of new materials for tribological applications in Industry, Effect, cost and benefits analysis.
Chapter-2:
Design and selection of Material for Tribological applications.Introduction and general principle. Estimation of Wear rate, system approach,Reducing wear by changing the operating variable,Effect of lubrication.
Chapter-3:
Conventional materials, composite materials, Polymer Matrix Composites, Metal Matrix Composites Introduction, Ceramic Matrix Composites for tribological applications, manufacturing methods, Area of applications.
Introduction, surface treatments, surface coatings, methods and procedure.
Chapter-4:
Surface Engineering , Introduction, Modification of component surface with and without compositional changes, Coating deposited on to the component surface-Tribological behavior and its evaluation
Chapter-5
Testing methodology, new materials, Problem solving techniques of real life problems with examples.
Chapter-6
Lubrication, Introduction, Necessity for tribological failure, types of lubrication, properties of lubrication, lubricants additives, types and effects.
