Introduction: overview of planning and control, production planning, production control, functions of production planning and control, short range and long range planning, types of production, work study-Method study, basic procedure-Selection-Recording of process – Critical analysis, Development – Implementation – Micro motion and memo motion study – work measurement – Techniques of work measurement – Time study – Production study –Work sampling – Synthesis from standard data – Predetermined motion time standards. Forecasting: principles of forecasting, forecasting techniques, forecast error, Product planning-Extending the original product information-Value analysis-Problems in lack of product planning-Process planning and routing-Pre requisite information needed for process planning-Steps in process planning-Quantity determination in batch
Production-Machine capacity, balancing analysis of process capabilities in a multi-product system. Aggregate planning, Master production scheduling, Material requirement planning (MRP): MRP Basics, MRP II, principles and procedure for material planning, bill of materials, Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Capacity Management: Basics of capacity management, capacity planning, Capacity requirements planning (CRP), capacity management strategies, Inventory Control: Basic concepts of inventory, categories of inventory, inventory costs, EOQ, inventory models, inventory classification techniques, Factors affecting Inventory, inventory control. Scheduling and control of production: Scheduling methods, dispatching rules, Gantt charts, line of balance– Flow production scheduling-Batch production scheduling Integrated production planning and control: Lean production and JIT, pull system, kanban, theory of constrain, FMS, OPT, TOC.
