Syllabus

1. To determine the tumbler and abrasion indices of lump iron ore.
2. To determine the micuum indices of coke.
3. To study the decomposition of calcium carbonate and determination of equilibrium constant and free energy change.
4. To determine the partial molal volume of each component in a solution of water and methanol.
5. To determine the equilibrium constant and free energy change for the C+CO2 = 2CO reaction.
6. To study the effect of temperature on % reduction of iron ore pellet .
7. To study the effect of time on % reduction of iron ore pellet.
8. Pelletization of iron ore fines, firing of pellets and measurement of their crushing strength.

Course Objectives

  • CO1: To impart knowledge for applications in iron and steel making.
  • CO2: To enrich knowledge for applications in R & D laboratories.
  • CO3: To understand the feasibility of a reaction during pyrometallurgical processes.
