Syllabus

1. Measurement of Partial Discharge in (a) Transformer, (b) Cables.
2. Measurement of dielectric loss and dissipation factor in liquid and solid dielectrics using Schering Bridge.
3. Study of Impulse generator and estimation of Critical Impulse Flashover Voltages on suspension type Insulator with (a) Positive Impulse (b) Negative Impulse voltage.
4. Estimation of string efficiency and flashover study of suspension type porcelain/ceramic insulators under (a) Dry and (b) Wet condition.
5. Breakdown of air under uniform and non-uniform field.
6. Measurement audible and visible corona inception and extinction voltage.
7. Horn gap arrangement as surge diverter.
8. Measurement of insulation resistance of insulating materials by megger (Analog and Digital) with different applied voltage and observe leakage current.
9. To find capacitance of given geometry and potential distribution in dielectric using FEMM/ ANSYS.
10. To find the voltage distribution in the Air and Transformer Oil.
11. Surface flashover on the surface of polymer insulator materials.
12. Measurement of breakdown strength of gaseous dielectrics.

Course Objectives

  • To develop hands-on experience of how certain procedures of High Voltage engineering are carried out.
  • To understand the basic concepts of high voltage testing techniques.
  • To identify the components used and ability to solve practical challenges in solution implementations.
  • To promote teamwork among students and effective communication skills

Course Outcomes

1. Students will be able to understand the basic concepts high voltage generation and testing procedure. <br />2. Students will be able to understand all the fundamental concepts of High Voltage generation.. <br />3. Students will be able to understand breakdown phenomena in gases and to elucidate the concepts used for the generation of high voltages and currents. <br />4. Students will be able to elucidate the concepts used for the measurement of high voltages and currents and design corresponding circuits. <br />5. Students will be able to understand high voltage testing techniques of Power apparatus. <br />6. Students will be able to analyze experimental results and effective documentation.
