Syllabus

Familiarization of Cadence Virtuoso IC design flow. Design and characterization of CMOS inverter. Obtain VTC curve. Obtain transient response. Post layout simulation Characterization of n-MOSFET and p-MOSFET. Calculate t_ox and compare with model parameter. Obtain transfer characteristics and find threshold voltage. Obtain drain characteristics. Obtain µ_n c_ox and µ_p c_ox values. Design and simulation of common source amplifier with resistive and active loads. Design and simulation of Common source amplifier with source degeneration. Common drain amplifier with different loads. Design and simulation of common gate amplifier with resistive load and current buffer. Design and simulation of current mirrors and obtain r_out and V_min . Simple current mirror. Cascode current mirror.
Wilson current mirror. High swing current mirror. Improved high swing current mirror.
Design and simulation of reference circuits. Simple voltage reference circuit. Simple current reference circuit. Threshold current reference circuit. Design and simulation of

Course Objectives

  • To provide in-depth understanding in designing analog integrated circuit and building blocks.
  • To provide a hands on experience in analog circuit simulations.

Course Outcomes

CO1: Able to carry out research and development in the area of analog and mixed signal IC design. <br />CO2: To be well versed with the MOSFET based circuit simulations using Cadence Virtuoso simulation environment. <br />CO3: Able to analyze and simulate analog circuits such as Amplifier, Current mirrors, Biasing circuits. <br />CO4: Able to analyze and simulate circuits like Differential Amplifier, CMOS Op-Amp, ADCs. <br />CO5: Design and simulate state of the art analog circuits based on given design specifications to serve VLSI industries.
