Syllabus
• Module I: Background and need of universal design, history of development of universal design initiatives
• Module II: Types of disability and approaches towards disability (medical and social model of disability), study of
human – environment interaction system
• Module III: Norms, standards and best practices for indoor environment (horizontal circulation in building, vertical
circulation, sanitary facilities, signage etc.)
• Module IV: Norms, standards and best practices for outdoor environment (road and footpath, parking, bus stop, park
etc.)
• Module V: Universally accessed transportation and tourism
Exercise: Access audit and design proposal for sites and buildings
Course Objectives
- To understand and explore the innovative design solutions for differently abled in the society.
Course Outcomes
An ability to identify and formulate programmatic requirements for the differently abled. <br />An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet the desired needs.
