Syllabus
Introduction to Earth and atmosphere, The Equation of State, Principles of Thermodynamics, Thermodynamics of water vapour and moist air, Thermodynamic Diagrams, Hydrostatic Equilibrium, Hydrostatic Stability and Convection, The fundamental physics of radiation, Solar and terrestrial radiation, Application of Radiation in the Earth-Atmosphere System
Laws of Atmospheric motion, Rotating coordinate system, Gravity and pressure gradient forces, continuity equation, equations of motion, thermodynamic energy equation, atmospheric boundary layer, meteorological systems, energy balance
Course Objectives
- Impart knowledge relating to basics relating to atmosphere, atmospheric thermodynamics and radiation
Course Outcomes
Students would already understand how the available basic knowledge in physics, mathematics and chemistry is translated to atmospheric science basics and the same can be applied in the desired field.
