Syllabus

Megascopic identification of different rock forming minerals: Quartz, Plagioclase, Pyroxene, Orthoclase, Topaz, Corundum, Chlorite, Kyanite, Sillimanite, Olivine, Biotite, Garnet, Muscovite, Staurolite, Hornblende, Talc, Gypsum etc.
Identification of different crystal systems (Isometric,Tetragonal, Hexagonal, Orthorhombic, Monoclinic, Triclinic) and its symmetry.
Identification of different rock forming minerals (Quartz, Plagioclase, Pyroxene, Orthoclase, Topaz, Corundum, Chlorite, Kyanite, Sillimanite, Olivine, Biotite, Garnet, Muscovite, Staurolite, Hornblende, Talc, Gypsum etc.) under microscope.

Course Objectives

  • To study different properties of minerals.
  • To understand different crystal systems and its symmetry.
