Syllabus

Measurement error and uncertainty, accuracy, types of errors, propagation of errors, characteristics of measuring instruments. Signal conditioning, instrumentation amplifiers, sample and hold circuits, filters, isolation amplifiers. A/D and D/A conversion: parallel, successive approximation and dual slope A/D converters. Data acquisition systems and Virtual instrument: Hall sensors for voltage and current measurements, current and potential transformers, frequency, phase sequence measurement, sequence components measurement, Phase lock loop (PLL) and Frequency lock loop (FLL), power system measurements for single phase and three phase circuits: -Active, reactive, apparent power measurements. Measurement of THD, pf, displacement factor, measurement of instantaneous active and reactive powers, Detection of winding deformation in power transformers using impedance measurements, SFRA, and online high-frequency signal injection. PC based instrumentation.

  • Comprehend various transducers and measuring instruments used in power systems
  • To understand the methods to measure various power systems parameters

Course Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to <br />1. Suggest techniques for carrying out power system measurements <br />2. Understand the method to perform PC based measurements
